Rescuers arrived at the mountain shortly after noon Monday after receiving reports that the skier had been seriously injured, officials said. Quimby was first taken to Laconia Hospital and then transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Gunstock Mountain Resort general manager Tom Day said in a statement: “Witnesses said she skied off course and was injured after hitting trees and rocks.” , our hearts go out to her family.”
According to the website, Quimby is a member of the Northeast Six Shooters, a club that participates in cowboy-style shooting competitions on horseback, with members in New England and Pennsylvania as well as the states of New England.
Northeast Six Shooters board member Molly Thrombo said Quimby is in his third season in the sport with his grandfather.
“They raced together, traveled together, and were both very active members of our club.” She trained the horses herself. He was smart and talented.”
According to Thrombo, Quimby loved her horse, Marcy, and never missed a weekly practice at the club.
“She never complained, never said anything bad. She always volunteered. She was always there.” She was never scared, she was always happy to try.”
Slombo said that when Quimby competed, her playlist always included one of her favorite singers, Taylor Swift. Quimby said she turned 15 in September and was mature for her age, Slombo said.
“She had ambitions for everything in the world,” she said. “She could do anything”
According to Thrombo, Quimby loved attending trade shows organized by the Northeast Six Shooters around New Hampshire and never missed one once he became a member.
“I can’t even imagine what her friends and family are going through,” Thrombo said. “This is a terrible loss for our club.”
