The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) has announced a new funding initiative to increase the number of behavioral health workers in West Virginia. DHHR’s Office of Behavioral Health and Public Health has applied for the third round of the Statewide Therapist Loan Repayment Project (STLR) with a primary focus on recent master’s level graduates in social work, counseling, or psychology. is requesting Psychiatrist.
“Children in our state and our communities are facing incredible challenges, and too many are experiencing emotional distress,” said DHHR’s Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders. Deputy Commissioner Christina Mullins said. “The STLR project is focused on expanding West Virginia’s behavioral health workforce, making evidence-based, quality care from skilled health care providers more accessible to individuals. We are committed to helping treat and recover individuals with mental health and substance use disorders in our state.”
Qualified field applicants apply for partial repayment of their education loan in exchange for two years of mandatory work at a qualified job in the state. Prizes for successful applicants are expected to be $35,000 for counselors, psychologists, and social workers, and $100,000 for child psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses.
