Longtime CEO at behavioral health provider Horizon retiring in June

Erin DiGirolamo, Horizon’s chief operating officer, will take over as CEO when Constantino steps down.

Horizon Corporations, which includes Horizon Health Services, Horizon Village, and Horizon Health Alliance, has more than 800 employees and annual sales of $70 million.

Constantino has worked with Horizon for 37 years, starting in 1986 as a senior counselor at the organization’s first addiction clinic. As the company grew, she moved into clinical and operational leadership roles and she was appointed president and CEO in 1994.

Constantino is credited with leading Horizon through its expansion to serve more counties and creating innovative and sustainable support services for patients. Horizon currently has 20 locations in western New York, a statewide telenetwork, and two residential and inpatient campuses in Erie and Niagara counties.

The organization said its board and senior leadership team have been developing succession plans for many years.

DiGirolamo has been “an integral part of the leadership team since 2006,” according to Horizon, and served as chief financial officer before being appointed chief operating officer. Prior to joining Horizon, he spent 16 years in Ernst & Young’s healthcare consulting division, leading turnaround projects.
