A Plan for the health of health professionals reveals thirteen measures focused on prevention (particularly in mental health), physical activity, nutrition, sleep, without however addressing the issues of workload or staffing levels. A new module entitled “ be an actor in your own health » will be integrated into the students’ curriculum.

“Nearly half (46%) of caregivers reported having fallen ill in the last three months, almost twice as many as employees (27%),” recalls the Ministry of Health. In a speech on Friday, May 22, the Minister of Health, Stéphanie Rist, announced 13 measures to improve the health of caregivers, deployed around four areas:

  • Equip and support professionals, including students.
  • Prevent, particularly in mental health, which requires a cultural change in healthcare organizations.
  • Reduce professional risks, through prevention and reinforced social dialogue in hospitals and in the medico-social sector.
  • And finally, place the health of caregivers over the long term as an institutional priority, a fundamental commitment which must survive the application of this plan.

13 measures to encourage caregivers to take better care of themselves

Among these measures, we find in particular:

  • the establishment of a common information portal (which will allow us to group “in a unique place” all existing devices, or “spread good practices«) and a unique call number,
  • registering a module « be an actor in your own health » in the initial and continuing training of health professionals (the objective of which is “ to anchor professional practice, health and well-being reflexes sustainably and as early as possible in professional courses and practices« ),
  • the establishment of “ prevention minutes » in all structures,
  • the creation of a national label “ 3S » Health and care of caregivers (to encourage establishments to take up the subject and promote those who get involved),
  • encouraging dialogue around the Single Professional Risk Assessment Document (DUERP) and the Annual Program for the Prevention of Professional Risks and Improvement of Working Conditions (PAPRIPACT)
  • strengthening the skills of occupational health nurses of the hospital public service (FPH), in particular through the information and prevention visit (VIP).

Finally, among the measures aimed at raising awareness about the health of health professionals, the ministry recommends launching a “ national mobilization » in favor of the health of caregivers, an initiative that “aims to make visible both to caregivers themselves and to the general public the importance of their health, both physical and mental”organize a periodic assessment of the state of health of health professionals by the DREES or even encourage break times during and after work for night professionals.

The committee behind this plan intends to continue its work. It will notably have to integrate new actions on parenting, addictive behavior, diet or the health of young health professionals.
