This reference sheet baptized “Artificial intelligence in health – Use it well and protect yourself well” intended for users was developed by the High Authority for Health. It must allow everyone to adopt the right reflexes in their uses, to better understand how generative AI works and to identify its limits.
Although the uses of artificial intelligence (AI) in health are developing, the benchmarks are still insufficient. This is the observation drawn up by the High Authority of Health which wishes « allow users to benefit from the contributions of generative AI in health while adopting the right reflexes: critical thinking, vigilance over personal data and systematic recourse to a health professional for interpretation and decision-makingn. »
Widely accessible to the general public and taking up an increasing place in health information pathways, generative AI tools can provide unreliable answers or contravene the protection of personal data. It is therefore essential to “have clear, educational and accessible benchmarks”for the HAS.
These benchmarks which rely which are based on the work of the National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties and France assos santé, the federation of patient associationsare provided via a summary document, which gives patients some key messages and reliable benchmarks, following on from the publication last fall by the HAS of its document intended for caregivers, who are also concerned.
In addition, a question/answer database is online to answer users’ frequent questions:
- What is generative AI in health?
- Do my identity and personal data remain confidential when I use generative artificial intelligence?
- With what resources does artificial intelligence answer my question? Is it reliable?
- Can I trust artificial intelligence when I ask it for advice about my health?
- Are the answers offered by artificial intelligence reliable?
- How do I talk about my research using artificial intelligence to a healthcare professional?
- Do health professionals in the social and medico-social sectors also use artificial intelligence?
For France Assos santé, the issue is not “to contrast artificial intelligence and human expertise, but to help everyone to use these new tools with discernment and to enable a more peaceful dialogue between caregivers and patients around their uses of AI”.
