3018, the national system for the protection of minors from digital violence and harassment, and 3114, the national suicide prevention number, have signed a partnership agreement which aims to strengthen the coordination of actors involved in supporting young people faced with complex situations, at the intersection of harassment, cyberharassment and psychological suffering. Press release.
3018, supported by the e-Enfance Association, is the free national help, prevention and reporting number dedicated to young victims of harassment and digital violence. It offers psychological, legal and technical support 7 days a week. At the same time, 3114, the free and confidential national suicide prevention number, is accessible 24 hours a day throughout France. It is managed by the Lille University Hospital as part of the national health strategy.
Every day, the 3018 and 3114 teams are on the front line to welcome the words of young people in difficulty. In the field, 3018 and 3114 regularly support the same young people, at different moments in a trajectory of psychological suffering. The agreement between 3018 and 3114 above all makes it possible to avoid interruptions in support and to guarantee continuity of support in the most critical situations.
3018 regularly supports minors in distress following digital violence, while 3114 receives a growing number of calls from young people, sometimes very young, facing situations of harassment.
These developments are part of a documented context:
● 37 % young people aged 6 to 18 report having been confronted with harassment or cyberharassment,
● 25 % of victims have already thought about harming themselves or committing suicide (until 39 %among young girls)1,
● Hospitalizations for self-inflicted acts among adolescents and young women have increased significantly since 2017, with a recent acceleration2.
● The 3018 receives on average every 2 days a young person in a suicidal crisis or presenting a major suicidal risk3.
Beyond these figures, this agreement is based above all on a shared conviction: better cooperation means better protection.
Better cooperation to better protect
The signed agreement formalizes practices around four structuring axes:
● Strengthen team knowledge, to better understand the specificities of each system,
● Make support pathways more fluid, by facilitating the orientation of young people towards the service best suited to their situation. The two teams can now coordinate directly to ensure continuity of support,
● Share signals and emerging trends, in order to anticipate risky phenomena, particularly on social networks,
● Carry out advocacy together, particularly within the framework of suicide prevention month (Yellow September), to raise awareness more widely and encourage the use of support systems.
This organization therefore aims to avoid interruptions in care and to guarantee essential continuity in moments of fragility.with an even broader ambition: to strengthen the culture of prevention and encourage speaking out.
By combining their expertise, 3018 and 3114 help to better detect weak signals, intervene earlier and direct young people more effectively towards appropriate resources.
In an environment where challenges are evolving rapidly, this alliance sends a clear message: solutions exist, professionals are listening, and no young person should be left alone in a situation of distress. When 3018 and 3114 work together, it’s no longer just a question of moderation or listening: sometimes it’s a question of survival.
