Digital medical devices in mental health: eight winners

As part of the Grand Challenge “Digital medical devices in mental health” planned as part of the 2030 health innovation plan, health component of France 2030, eight winners have been selected and will be financially supported. Communiqué

While France is committed to a structural reform of its mental health system, it encourages the development of digital health, not as a response to tensions in the provision of care, but as an integral component of global care, centered on the needs of patients and the strengthening of their power to act.

Supporting digital medical devices for mental health

Digital medical devices (DMN) offer new perspectives for strengthening prevention, improving access to care and supporting the recovery of people with mental disabilities. Likewise, they constitute tools to complete and strengthen the caregiver-patient bond and promote the power to act of individuals and collectives. Their added value must nevertheless still be fully demonstrated to health professionals, patients and their loved ones and this is precisely one of the challenges of the Grand Challenge “Digital medical devices in mental health” planned as part of the 2030 health innovation plan, health component of France 2030

This Grand Challenge, operated on behalf of the State by Bpifrance, aims to support innovative projects in the field of digital mental health and psychiatry, and to promote the accelerated emergence of leading companies in their field, able to claim global scale by accelerating one of the phases of development and access to the market. The objective of the action is to bring together users, designers, evaluators and funders to propose DMNs in mental health and psychiatry that respond to the issues and needs identified.

Eight winning projects were selected as part of the second wave of this call for projects and will benefit from total funding of more than €7M. The winning projects are:

• PSYCHIATRY FM project led by CALLYOPE: solution based on audio models and AI to better assess symptoms in psychiatry (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc.) and anticipate relapses.
• DALIA BLOOM DPP project supported by DALIA CARE: innovative digital solution for early detection and improvement of monitoring of postpartum depression.
• EOS RENAISSANCE project led by CLEER: innovative digital addiction platform allowing personalized support for patients and optimization of medical monitoring thanks to the integration of clinical and medicinal data.
• BEAM project led by SurgeCare: innovative approach combining multi-omics and AI data to predict the response of patients with resistant depression and optimize their therapeutic orientation.
• POP10 project led by POPPINS: innovative digital therapy based on AI to improve the management of mathematics learning disorders in children.
• LEOPAS project led by LEOPA: innovative digital solution aimed at improving the monitoring of bipolar disorders and strengthening patient autonomy through personalized therapeutic pathways.
• MINDTRACK project supported by MANITTY: digital medical device designed for prevention, early detection and longitudinal monitoring of mental health, particularly in children, adolescents and young adults. It combines continuous neurophysiological monitoring in real-life conditions with cognitive, behavioral and psychosocial data.
• NEUROSCREEN project led by DEXTRAIN: innovative digital solution combining neurocognitive assessment and AI to accelerate the early diagnosis of psychotic disorders.
