The specific regional cancer system (DSRC) OncoPaca-Corse puts a best practices sheet online “Adaptation of the oncology pathway for patients with disabilities”designed to help hospital teams adapt the oncology pathway for people with disabilities. This document was developed by the Disability & Cancer Regional Expert Group, set up in September 2025, and bringing together professionals from the health and medico-social sectors.
“The result of several collaborative work meetings, this sheet provides a clear identification of available resources and possible adaptation levers, in order to support more accessible, coordinated and equitable care”notes the press release. Developed at the request of health professionals, this sheet must “meet the need for a clear, readable and synthetic grouping of existing tools”. While many resources are already available, these “remain insufficiently known or mobilized”. The objectives of this practical tool are therefore to “facilitate access to available resources, harmonize practices in the field and improve the quality, adaptation and coordination of care”.
A personalized approach
This sheet recommends an anticipated approach from reception, relying on disability representatives and adapted communication tools, such as BD Health sheets or Handiconnect* resources, to guarantee clear and accessible information at each stage. The course also emphasizes personalization: integration of caregivers into the care plan, arrangement of consultation times and hospitalization conditions (quiet rooms, preserved autonomy), and reinforced coordination during the transition to post-treatment. Finally, professionals are encouraged to mobilize specific resources such as consultations HandiConsult distributed across the region (Var, Alpes-Maritimes, Bouches-du-Rhône, Vaucluse) and the Coordination Support Devices (DAC) to manage the most complex situations.
This sheet “accessible in clickable digital format or via a QR code on the back” propose :
- of the ” general tools » for support “global and adapted” ;
- a presentation of the different stages of the patient journey in oncology, “accompanied by concrete tools” at each stage;
- a summary of the recommendations of the High Authority for Health (HAS) on the care of people with disabilities;
- a census of regional and national resources, in particular Handiconsult systems.
*Handiconnect is a resource site which aims to support healthcare professionals in the reception and specific monitoring of patients with disabilities: it notably offers advice sheets or a training directory.
