How to deploy advance directives in psychiatry?

The National Agency for Health and Medico-Social Performance (Anap) is publishing two new resources to accelerate the deployment of Advance Directives in Psychiatry (DAP): a webinar with testimonies from three professionals and a guide which details the operational levers of this feedback.

Still little deployed in establishments despite demonstrated benefits, measures or advance directives in psychiatry (DAP) (see our file) constitute a major lever for improving care pathways and strengthening users’ rights.

Following on from its July 2025 webconference, the National Agency for Health and Medico-Social Performance (Anap) in collaboration with the “National Collective for the Deployment of Advance Directives in Psychiatry (DAP)” is publishing two new resources to accelerate their deployment: a webinar with testimonies from three professionals and a guide which details the operational levers of this feedback.

These tools are intended for establishment management, CME, Nursing, Rehabilitation and Medical-Technical Commission, medical, paramedical and socio-educational supervision.

Recognized public health tools, measures or advance directives in psychiatry (DAP) contribute to preventing crisis situations, strengthening the therapeutic alliance and reducing hospitalizations without consent (–23 to –25%). They also make it possible to reduce the use of isolation and restraint.
However, despite these demonstrated benefits, their implementation remains uneven, unstructured and often marginal in practice. There are many obstacles: lack of tools, absence of institutional management, insufficient training of professionals, difficulty integrating the experiential knowledge of the people concerned and measuring the real impact of the deployment.

A sharing of three feedbacks
The webinar and the Anap guide aim to highlight the levers for successful deployment through 3 consolidated measurement tools or advance directives in psychiatry:

– DAiP (Advance incentive directives in psychiatry)
: this tool is deployed at the GHU Paris Psychiatry and Neurosciences. Its deployment is based on a strong commitment from the establishment, structured management, team training and integration into the patient file.

– My GPS (my Mental Health Prevention and Care Guide): at the EPSM du Morbihan, its deployment shows that success relies on strong institutional support, the training of teams and tools facilitating its integration and monitoring of its use.

– PCC (Joint Crisis Plan) : at the Saint‑Cyr‑au‑Mont‑d’Or hospital center, its deployment is based on a clear organization, identified management and the involvement of all stakeholders, placing the PCC as a real care tool at the heart of the establishment project.

“The usefulness of DAPs is now well established. This is a concrete lever to improve care pathways, strengthen patients’ rights and limit hospitalizations without consent. This webinar and this guide explain how to deploy them in practice and equip teams based on successful feedback. » declares Valentin Simon, Director of the health care and pathway performance division at Anap.
