Accepting applications to serve on an ACSM Pronouncement Writing Group
The ACSM Pronouncement Committee is looking for ACSM members in good standing to serve as an author for a recently approved update to the previous “Nutrition and Athletic Performance” position stand. This update will be in coordination with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and Dietitians of Canada (DC) as a multiorganization publication.
The ACSM Pronouncement Committee is dedicated to providing opportunities for all members and is seeking qualified experts including representation from all genders, early to late career stage, American and international, PhD’s, MD’s and specialty certifications (RD, CSSD, DPT, AT, RN) to serve on the development of this pronouncement.
ACSM encourages members with the following to apply:
- A strong history of published peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts in high impact journals surrounding nutrition and athletic performance, including publications within the last 12 months to ensure current awareness of the literature.
- Extensive research experience with nutrition and sports performance with practical understanding of the current issues in nutrition and sports/athletics.
- Experience overseeing large systematic reviews and familiarity with reporting guidelines. 4) Demonstrated passion for advancing the knowledge and education of sports nutrition physiology and performance.
- Contributions to the field or unique perspectives that would aid in the development of the position stand are also strongly recommended.
Experience and collaboration with ACSM committees and service to the College are desirable but not required. All applicants must be in good standing as an active ACSM member and are expected to maintain an active membership status until publication.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and Dietitians of Canada (DC) will be searching within their organizations for applicants that provide strong clinical or applied expertise such as full-time sports dietitians (RD’s, CSSD). The position stand will be chaired by one member from each co-publishing organization (ACSM, DC, and AND) and will include an advisory committee of authors from the 2016 position stand. The pronouncement will be published in the Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (MSSE) journal and will be made freely available to the public. The expectation is that the work on the paper will be completed within 24 months, with all work being completed remotely (virtually). ACSM will provide support for the Writing Group to complete their work within a reasonable timeframe. This is a voluntary position, and monetary compensation will not be provided.
A position stand serves as the College’s most authoritative and influential, evidence-based statement on a topic of relevance to those in the fields of exercise science and sports medicine. Position Stands are developed using ACSM’s approved Evidence Based Protocol for Position Stand development. This includes development of PICOT questions, a systematic review of the literature, evaluation of individual studies for freedom from risk of bias and grading the overall strength of evidence. The ACSM Evidence Base Practice Committee will oversee the execution of the systematic review process in collaboration with the Writing Group.

- A cover letter (1” margins, single-spaced, 2-page max, 12pt font) outlining the rationale and qualifications to serve as part of this Writing Group.

In addition, all authors must be approved by the ACSM Administrative Council and Board of Trustees. ACSM’s From Around the Field Science webinar series is designed to provide ACSM students and members with an opportunity to learn about the diverse science our members conduct. This webinar will explore how physical activity can be leveraged to prevent and treat pediatric obesity, with an emphasis on translating research into clinical and community practice. Drawing on both research and experience in pediatric obesity care, the presentation will highlight the unique challenges and opportunities for addressing obesity in rural populations and discuss practical strategies for improving outcomes in real world settings. Sport Medicine Practitioners needed for volunteer research survey
Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Mass General Brigham are looking for sports medicine physicians, physical therapists, and athletic trainers to participate in a survey titled “Evaluating Bracing Strategies for Elbow Ulnar Collateral Ligament Injuries in Baseball Pitchers.” The purpose of the study is to understand current clinical perspectives on elbow bracing for UCL injuries in baseball pitchers, including which braces are recommended, how often they are used, and what factors influence their prescription. Volunteers must be sports medicine practitioners over the age of 18. Survey responses will be completely anonymous, with no personal information collected. The study has received IRB approval from Mass General Brigham (Protocol #2025P002929). The survey will take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete. There is no compensation for participating in this survey. All data are collected and stored securely through REDCap and are returned directly to the research team at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, not ACSM.
