From March 10 to 19, the show Public Pro Bono traces the little-known history of psychiatry in France and sheds light on a medical sector in great suffering. It also highlights the creativity shown by nurses and other professionals in the sector.

The Latin expression public pro bono means “for the public good”. Dominique Habouzit went to observe this “public good” in different psychiatric care services. Throughout its research, the company found reason for hope: in certain places, more humanistic ways of providing care are being invented.

On the set, the actress and puppeteer Sarah Darnault, accompanied by the visual artist and circus performer Fer Flores, recount this immersion in the history of French psychiatry and feature some of these figures. There are also large rolls of paper transformed in a thousand ways by the performers who crumple them, hang them, cut them out.

Public Pro Bono traces the little-known history of psychiatry in France and sheds light on a medical sector in great suffering; it also highlights the creativity shown by nurses and other professionals in the sector. They then build a horizontal relationship with patients. A show that questions the common good and gives us the desire to recapture what belongs to us.
