Splitting, a defense mechanism

Certain clinical situations divide caregivers and we must then be able to contain the divide. It’s about not letting yourself get caught up entirely in this spiral, while recognizing what this mechanism says about the patient’s suffering.

She has been hospitalized in psychiatry, in the reception unit for several days. The emergency doctor highlighted mood disorders with impulsivity and self-aggressive acts. She does not really put herself in danger but increases the number of scarifications and especially the ingestions of benzodiazepines which regularly lead her to the Emergency Department.
