Unhappiness and suicide – Mental Health

Suffering people, loved ones and professionals testify

Every year in France, nearly 200,000 people attempt to end their lives and 9,000 kill themselves. These figures reflect the reality of exhausted loved ones, broken families and professionals faced with these complex situations.

This deeply human and enlightening book gives voice to those who have overcome a suicide attempt, as well as to their loved ones. From the announcement of the death to reconstruction, bereaved families speak of moments of great distress and their resilience. These testimonies intersect with those of health, rescue, emergency and social or educational support professionals. The authors enrich their reflection with theoretical and scientific perspectives.

What triggers a suicidal crisis? What signs can help you anticipate an act? How can those around you support without burning out? How to rebuild yourself after an attempt or a bereavement? How to free speech and deconstruct the taboo of suicide?

This work offers a better understanding of discomfort and ways to support people in suffering. It is aimed at families, caregivers, professionals, and anyone wishing to learn more about this subject.

This book was written in partnership with the association Au coeur des Flots and SOS Amitié.
