The injury that ended one career helped launch another

When a debilitating neck injury forced Alison Bell to step away from a high-flying international IT career, she feared the future she had worked so hard to build had disappeared. Instead, the experience opened the door to an entirely new vocation that she now describes as her dream job.

Alison was already familiar with the teachings of Louise Hay before the injury that altered the direction of her life.

“I had been in corporate for the best part of 20 years,” she said. “I was in IT security, IT sales, I had a European role, I was flying all around the world – and then I had to leave that career.

“My son came into our bedroom one morning and I thought he was going to be sick because he had been ill the day before. I sat bolt upright in bed – and that’s when it happened. I had trapped a nerve in my neck.

“That moment changed everything…”

Unable to work and largely confined to her home, Alison began spending time attending virtual seminars hosted by Hay House. A few months later she attended an ‘I Can Do It’ event where she discovered training to become a Heal Your Life workshop leader.

The experience proved transformative and inspired her to pursue formal certification. After qualifying in 2019, she began delivering workshops, coaching sessions and group programmes, work she continues to this day.

Now she hopes to bring these principles back into the business environment through her “Leading with Heart and Mind” programme.

According to Alison, organisations increasingly understand the value of supporting employees as whole people rather than focusing solely on performance metrics.

By helping individuals challenge limiting beliefs and fostering healthier workplace cultures, she believes companies can create teams that are more motivated, creative and productive.

Central to the philosophy is Louise Hay’s belief that thoughts influence experiences. Alison says cultivating positive expectations can dramatically change how people experience both work and life.
